SPICE GIRLS: FRENZIED FANS SHAKE MEL C
02 April 2001

FRENZIED FANS SHAKE MEL C

Fans run on stage during encore.

Security at the Jack Singer Concert Hall in Calgary, Canada was called into question this weekend after fifteen screaming fans stormed the stage during a performance by Mel C. The former Spice Girl looked shaken at the invasion and stormed off when one of the fans tried to grab her for a hug.

Whilst there is no suggestion that any of the teenagers had any intention of harming the 26-year-old singer it is a worry that they were able to get onto the stage so easily. This follows the attack on Robbie Williams, again mid-song, a few weeks ago by a deranged fan who kicked and punched the singer and then hurled him into a lighting pit.

The venue in Calgary is mainly used for classical concerts and one theory is that organisers at the Jack Singer Concert Hall did not expect to have to deal with so many screaming teenagers.
