After taking the weekend off, Metallica's hyperactive lawyers are at it again, this time threatening Waco, Texas-based furniture makers Metallika with a copyright infringement writ.
Last week music3w.com reported that the litigious rockers had taken action against French cosmetics giant Guerlain and both the Neiman-Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman department store chains over the manufacture and sale of a perfume called Metallica. Earlier in the year the band settled a similar battle with US lingerie chain Victoria's Secret over their Metallica lipstick shade. And we're not even going to mention Napster.
Metallika furniture store owner Kim Hodges admitted to being a fan of the band, but failed to understand why they would bother with a "piddling" outfit like his. He has already said that he won't try to fight the suit in court.
A member of Metallica's legal team said: "It's not like we're trying to protect a name that's commonly used, like 'United'. It's a unique name." |
